Pursat, Cambodia \u2013 December 27th<\/sup>, 2024<\/strong><\/p>

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Cambodia, in collaboration with the Pursat Committee for Disaster Management (PCDM), successfully organized a dissemination workshop to share the results of the Adaptive Resilient Initiative for Sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction (ARISE II)<\/em> project. This 9-month initiative (April to December 2024) was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and implemented through a partnership between ADRA Czech Republic and ADRA Cambodia.<\/p>

The workshop was held at the Pursat Provincial Health Department meeting hall and was presided over by H.E. Run Sary, Provincial Deputy Governor, alongside Mr. Try Kimlong, ADRA Cambodia Program Coordinator, and district deputy governors Mr. Orn Sophalla (Kandieng) and Mr. Um Sokna (Bakan).<\/p>

Key Objectives of the Workshop:<\/strong><\/p>

  1. Presentation of Project Results:<\/strong>
    The project successfully transferred technical assistance in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Commune Investment Planning (CIP) to local committees at district, commune, and village levels. It also engaged key provincial departments, including Health, Education, Agriculture, Environment, and Water Resources, to integrate DRR strategies into sustainable development agendas.<\/li>
  2. Strategic Consultation:<\/strong>
    Participants identified community priorities for DRR-CIP initiatives, aligning key development goals with the policies of the Committee for Disaster Management (CDM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/li><\/ol>

    Workshop Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>

    A total of 67 participants attended, including officials from provincial departments, DRR committees, and technical practitioners.<\/p>

    Key Remarks:<\/strong>
    Mr. Try Kimlong, ADRA Cambodia\u2019s Program Coordinator, reflected on the project\u2019s achievements:<\/p>

    \u201cThe ARISE II project has strengthened collaboration between ADRA, local government units, and communities in Pursat Province. Capacity-building initiatives have enhanced disaster identification skills, promoted community participation and transparency, and empowered local decision-making. Infrastructure support further mitigated disaster risks, while ownership and resilience-building were prioritized to align with sustainable development goals.\u201d<\/p>

    H.E. Run Sary commended ADRA\u2019s contributions, stating:<\/p>

    \u201cThe ARISE II project has significantly enhanced disaster risk reduction capacities in Pursat\u2019s vulnerable communities, contributing to climate change mitigation, development, and poverty reduction. I encourage ADRA to continue with the ARISE III project, expanding its impact to additional districts. I extend my gratitude to the Czech Republic government, ADRA Czech Republic, ADRA Cambodia, and all project partners for their invaluable support.\u201d<\/p>
