Preventive Actions for Transformative Health (PATH) is implemented by ADRA Cambodia and ADRA Fiji, with support from the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and ADRA Australia. Funded at USD 540,719, PATH runs in Pursat Province from July 2025 to June 2028.

PATH builds on Better Health for Cambodia initiative. Through simple, values-based habits, such as eating well, staying active, resting enough, and nurturing good relationships, the project helps individuals and families prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and build a healthier future together.

The project responds to a clear need in rural Cambodia, particularly in Boeung Botdondol commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province, where awareness of NCD prevention remains low, dietary habits could improve, and women, older people, and persons with disabilities often face barriers to health and nutrition education.

Using the Bridge to Better Health (B2B) model, PATH trains local health workers and Village Health Support Groups (VHSGs) to lead behaviour-change sessions on healthier living. Community members at risk take part in B2B health cycles and receive hands-on training in climate-smart home gardening, traditional food preparation, and peer-led NCD care groups. A strong gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) lens guides every activity, so that everyone can take part and progress lasts.

PATH runs for three years (July 2025 to June 2028) in the villages of Doung Chrum and Ressey Taman, Boeung Botdondol commune, Bakan District. ADRA works closely with the Bakan Operational District, Boeung Botdondol Health Centre, the Provincial Health Department, and the referral hospital’s laboratory in Pursat, working toward better health outcomes, lower NCD risk, and more climate-resilient, nutrition-sensitive practices at the household level.

The project aligns with Cambodia’s National Strategic Plan for NCD Prevention and Control (2021 to 2028), Ministry of Health priorities on community-based health promotion, and DFAT’s focus on health equity, gender equality, disability inclusion, and climate resilience under the ANCP.

Through PATH, we aim to:

  • Strengthen the capacity of health professionals and Village Health Support Groups to apply NCD prevention through the B2B Health approach
  • Build community knowledge of nutrition, healthy living, and self-care
  • Expand equal participation for women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups
  • Support practical steps that build climate resilience alongside community health

As the PATH project’s guiding theme reminds us: prevention is better than cure. By learning to stay healthy and prevent illness, communities can save money, reduce suffering, and enjoy a better quality of life. PATH is here to walk alongside you, every step of the way, as you build a healthier future for yourself, your family, and your community.
