Strengthening Education and Economic Development through Sustainable Agriculture (SEEDS)

Phnom Kravanh, Pursat Province – 28 July 2026 – ADRA Cambodia is pleased to announce the launch of SEEDS (Strengthening Education and Economic Development through Sustainable Agriculture), a new three-year project supported by ADRA Korea. Running from January 2026 to December 2028 with a budget of USD 195,628, SEEDS will reach 300 vulnerable households in Phnom Kravanh District, Pursat Province, phased in at 100 households per year. The project combines climate-smart agricultural training, covering composting, biochar production, and water-smart farming, with continued educational support for children enrolled in ADRA’s Child Sponsorship Program. SEEDS builds on more than a decade of ADRA Korea’s investment in the education and welfare of children in Kravanh District, extending that legacy into a new, livelihoods-focused chapter.

Household economic hardship remains one of the greatest barriers to education in rural Cambodia. According to a baseline assessment conducted under the Child Sponsorship Program, financial instability is responsible for the majority of school dropout cases in the district, as families struggle to generate sufficient, stable income to support their children’s schooling. SEEDS was designed to address this root cause directly, pairing livelihood development with sustained education support so that families can build resilient incomes while keeping their children in school.

Through the project, ADRA Cambodia will provide practical agricultural training, appropriate farming inputs, and continuous technical coaching to participating households. Priority will be given to the most economically vulnerable families, including women-headed households and households with children at risk of dropping out.

Key project activities include:

• Climate-smart, affordable farming practices, including composting, biochar production, vegetable cultivation, water-smart agriculture, seasonal crop planning, and market-oriented production
• Establishment of five community demonstration plots and five school-based learning sites for hands-on training and knowledge-sharing among farmers, students, and community members
• Annual education support for all sponsored children, including school uniforms, supplies, and other essential learning materials
• Strengthened linkages with local authorities and agricultural extension services to sustain benefits beyond the life of the project

Through SEEDS, ADRA Cambodia and ADRA Korea aim to help vulnerable families in Pursat Province build more stable livelihoods and ensure that economic hardship no longer stands between children and their education.
