ADRA Cambodia collaborated with Pursat Provincial Health Department and local authorities to promote “Protecting Children from tobacco industry interference”.
Pursat, June 7, 2024 – Members of ADRA Cambodia’s Best CHOICES project team, in collaboration with Provincial Health Department and local authorities, celebrated World No Tobacco Day 2024 in Bakan district of Pursat Province on June 7, 2024.
In cooperation with the Provincial Departments of Health and local authority leaders, 293 participants (105 females) joined the event.
The participants who were parts of Reflect Circle discussion group members, facilitators, Village Health Support Groups, village leaders, commune supervisors, Commune Councils, secondary school students, school teachers, policemen, deputy district governor, deputy director of the provincial Health Department, and ADRA project team joined in a march through 7 villages in Ou Tapoung commune, calling slogans “Together protect children and youth from tobacco products and e-cigarettes” and appealing to community members to give up using tobacco products from now with the key messages as below:
- Together protect children and youth from tobacco products and electronic cigarettes
- Block advertising and promotion of tobacco products
- Prohibit smoking or fumigation of tobacco products in public places
- Prevent the sale, distribution or use of electronic cigarettes
- Smoking leads to cancer, please give up the habit of using tobacco products from now on!
A female adolescent student expressed her enthusiasm at participating in this event of World No Tobacco Day 2024. She shared that the event had opened her eyes to the significant health, economic, and environmental impacts of tobacco. Proud to be part of this initiative, she made a personal commitment to help prevent the distribution and promotion of tobacco products and e-cigarettes. “I urge all young people to join me in curbing e-cigarette use!” she declared passionately.
